Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIHFAD) was set up by a group of people in the UK who were becoming increasingly concerned about the effects of the conflict on the people inside Syria. Most of the team were either born in the UK of Syrian parentage or are Syrians living in Britain.

Their teams on the ground in Syria take emergency aid directly to those living under threat and trying to survive in extreme conditions. Besides saving lives and relieving suffering, they help people to stay in Syria instead of fleeing to another country. They provide food and clothing, water and sanitation, and crucial medical aid in a country where the health service has been shattered when it is most urgently needed.

They work with other aid agencies and INGOs, advising them on what aid is needed inside Syria, where it is needed, and distributing it. Their partners provide funding for specific programmes such as hospital supplies (medicines, consumables and equipment), tents to provide shelter, and WASH programmes (water, sanitation & hygiene). This funding is added to the donations they receive from private donors, and enables them to take even more humanitarian aid into Syria. They also help to cover costs for logistical support.
