The Vicar of the Church of the Ascension is not at all happy with this statement. In the Church of the Ascension LGBTQIA+ people are welcome and their relationships are affirmed and supported. The Vicar sees marriage between LGBTQIA+ people as entirely equivalent to a marriage between a heterosexual couple and she is happy to welcome married couples to this church for a celebration. We at the Ascension apologise for the distress this statement has caused to LGBTQIA+ people, to lone parents and to their allies and friends.
